It is always a pleasure to work with the Grimsby Institute. In this case working with Chloe Tate and colleagues to plan and deliver a successful Future of Food careers event at the Grimsby Institute. Working with the team is always positive and effective and they always bring a focus on how to make something work and how to get there, which in turn contributed to the success of the event itself.
Thanks to Chloe and her support I was able to secure my self an amazing job with excellent future career prospects, It took a little while applying for various jobs over a period of months. However, Chloe kept me motivated to keep applying for jobs and trying my best in the interviews to secure probably the best job out of all the positions I applied for and I am now happy I did not get any of the previously applied for jobs to be able to get this great opportunity.
I found the placements really good, not only did I have something more to write on my CV but I also had skills that I had developed and experience in a business sales role that I had been looking for.
Making them part of the team and giving them some responsibility really helps develop their skills and our future chefs.
My work placement has included kitchen skills, I now feel able to carry out more tasks within a commercial kitchen as well as work from a set menu within the restaurant. I enjoyed my work experience it gave me experience I needed and lead to a part-time job.
We are happy to provide work experience placements as it gives learners a great experience and a taste of working in the industry, they carry out a range of duties and it really prepares them for their future and working in different sectors across the industry.
I enjoyed my work experience, I got to work with people and feel like part of a team, I was given tasks and really felt part of it, this made me think about different roles in Tourism that I have not considered such as cabin crew and airport service management
Working with these learners to share industry experience, use the skills they have developed within the commercial setting and support the next generation of salon professionals allowing them to work with real clients and undertake treatments builds their confidence and skills.
The learners were very useful within the shop, undertaking animal husbandry, health and general maintenance. Most learners could be left to work independently and could follow instructions.
I felt the placement was beneficial. I worked with more advanced horses which improved my skills, knowledge and confidence.
